Gender equality: results in higher education in Cuba III Taller "Igualdad de Género: Avances y Proyecciones"

Abstract

Advancing in the mainstreaming of the gender perspective in Higher Education is strategic: it allows guaranteeing the exercise of the right to equality within the university community, as well as playing a key role in the multiplication of this approach towards society as a whole, mainly through training and research activities. The Ministry of Higher Education is in charge of methodologically governing Cuban higher education. Its strategic planning shows a deep humanistic sense in the promotion of knowledge, skills and competencies that are reflected in the comprehensive training of professionals, postgraduate education, science, technology and innovation activities and university extension. The work carried out by the MES and its universities is characterized by relevance, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency and rationality, in line with the demands of society. The purpose of this paper is to disseminate the results of the work of this system in favor of gender equality. Among the requirements with which the MES Gender Committee has worked is to meet and comply with the indications of the National Program for the Advancement of Women. In this work, the contributions of the Women and Gender Chairs existing in Cuban universities stand out.
