Abstract

The current relationship between artificial intelligence and curriculum design has significant implications due to its advantages and disadvantages. This ongoing research aims to present the implications of using ChatGPT as a support tool in the curricular design of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL), specifically in the courses Spanish Writing I and II offered at Chinese universities. The study examines its potential to optimize the planning of personal and nonpersonal components of the courses and the harmonious inclusion of playful and immersive linguistic activities, aligned with the B1-B2 level of students, while also paying attention to the pedagogical and cultural risks associated with using this artificial tool. Through a mixed theoretical-applied approach, the study integrates methods such as documentary review of curricula, analysis of international best practices, and conceptual experiments in generating didactic units through specific prompts. Preliminary results indicate that ChatGPT can facilitate the creation of communicative content, suggest differentiated activities according to CEFR levels, and support the formulation of objectives and evaluation rubrics, always under teacher supervision. There is considerable time savings for teachers and administrators, and activities can be generated with greater creativity and adaptability. This research also contributes to educational innovation, the professional development of SFL teachers, and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in the Chinese university context.
